NFFF in healthy eating talks with government - news articles wanted

Article Date: 2013-04-25

Following intensive lobbying of the Government by the NFFF regarding the positive nutritional value of fish and chips, we have now successfully secured a meeting with Anna Soubry, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Public Health to discuss our position.

Our concern is that fish and chips are often shown in poor light in the media and by the Government whenever a story breaks concerning:

•       Acrylamide

•        Planning issues (particularly around schools)

•        Salt content

•        Obesity

We plan to attend the meeting in London with a dossier of these articles to demonstrate the volume of negative press, along with the scientific facts, data and evidence we have collated to challenge these constant and unfair attacks by the media and Government and to state our case for the fish and chip industry as a valuable contributor to the UK economy. We only have 30 minutes to make our case so the more evidence we have, and the more prepared we are, the better our chances of making headway.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 14th May. We are asking for your help in providing us with as much information as possible regarding any experiences you have had of these negative issues, and any arguments you use to challenge them.

Please send us as a matter of urgency any local or national newspaper articles or web links to articles, letters or photos that we can use to demonstrate our argument at this meeting. Tell us about your experiences and points of view so we can put forward a case that represents the views and experiences of our membership.

You can either email me at denise.dodd@federationoffishfriers.co.uk or write to me at: National Federation of Fish Friers, New Federation House, 4 Greenwood Mount, Meanwood, Leeds, LS6 4LQ ensuring items reach me by Tuesday 7th May.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Denise Dodd General Secretary
