Fish Friday launched in Falmouth

Article Date: 2013-06-07

THE FISHERMEN^S Mission in the South West has launched its national fundraising day, "Fish Friday", at The Harbour Lights fish restaurant and takeaway in Falmouth.

"Fish Friday", which this year takes place on June 21, is the one day of the year when the Fishermen^s Mission asks that everyone joins in to raise money for the nation^s unsung heroes – our fishermen and their families.

Gina Moore, regional fundraising manager for the mission, said: "We are encouraging all our supporters, fish and chip shops, fishmongers, restaurants and groups to help us raise a record amount. Fishing is the nation^s most dangerous peacetime occupation. We are the only charity that provides practical and financial support for fishermen and their families."

One of the charity^s most enthusiastic supporters in Cornwall is The Harbour Lights fish and chips restaurant which last year raised the most funds throughout the county.

Owner Peter Fraser said: "Harbour Lights is thrilled to support the mission again for Fish Friday Day. It^s our favourite fundraising day of the year and a fantastic charity. We have got lots of fun events planned and would love you to come and join us."

Anyone who would like get involved can sign up by e-mailing fishfriday@rnmdsf.org.uk or visit the Fishermen^s Mission website, www.fishermensmission.org.uk/fishfriday or call 01489 566910.
