Seafood lovers in Dungannon will be joining the rest of the UK to celebrate Seafood Week (6-13 October 2017). The Dolphin Takeaway, officially Northern Ireland’s Best Fish & Chip Shop, will mark the occasion with a tasty pop-up event at South West College, Dungannon in aid of the Fishermen’s Mission charity.

The Dolphin’s ‘Celebrate Fish & Chips’ pop-up at South West College invites all students and staff to pop into the Level 1 Kitchen at lunchtime on Tuesday 10th October to enjoy Fish & Chip Lighter Bites for only £1. That evening, the general public can book a ‘fin-tastic’ Traditional Seaside Sit-down Menu for just £9 in the college’s comfy ‘Etc Etc’ restaurant (5.30pm – 6.30pm) where traditional Fish & Chips will be served with mushy peas, bread and butter and tea, followed by delicious Apple Tart.

Evening bookings can be made in advance by telephone T. 028 8772 0616 or T. 0845 6031881 or email jeanette.clingen@swc.ac.uk. Proceeds will be donated to the Fishermen^s Mission charity.

The Dolphin Takeaway has been part of the local seafood scene since 1989 and is the reigning, three times winner of the N.I Regional Winner’s title in the National Fish & Chip Awards. The Dungannon chippy is officially listed as one of the UK Top 10.

Owner, Malachy Mallon said: "Seafood Week is about giving fish and seafood the recognition it deserves and thanking the people who produce it, from the fishermen who haul their fresh catch in all weathers to the chefs who serve it to our table. With the help of the fantastic students and staff at South West College we aim to raise funds for the Fishermen’s Mission charity and inspire everyone to eat more fish by celebrating and serving the nation’s favourite dish - Fish & Chips! Look out for prize competitions on the Dolphin Takeaway’s Facebook page too during Seafood Week.”

Grainne Mulholland, Catering Curriculum Manager at South West College said, "This topical pop-up event is such a great idea to help inspire our students and the public to celebrate seafood as well as raising funds for a very worthy cause. We are delighted to host the Dolphin’s Seafood Week event and we are proud to continue our valuable partnership with Malachy Mallon who has volunteered his specialist frying skills and award-winning knowledge to us on many occasions over the past three years. We encourage everyone to celebrate quality fish and chips and be part of Seafood Week.”

The Dolphin’s Seafood Week celebrations will culminate with a charity cheque presentation to the Fishermen’s Mission, including proceeds from Malachy Mallon’s recent and very successful 1500 miles solo cycle to the UK Top 10 Fish & Chip shops which raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

Seafood Week already has the backing of key players in the industry, including Seafish, the industry body that works to secure a profitable, sustainable and socially responsible future for the UK seafood industry.

Heather Middleton, Marketing Manager at Seafish, said: "We want to bring the whole of the UK together to celebrate and showcase all the best that seafood has to offer. "We’ve been eating it for generations. It is part of our tradition and our national identity, and it truly deserves a regular place on all our dining tables. To help build support of Seafood Week, we are urging people to start tweeting with the hashtag #seafoodweek. Visit seafoodweek.co.uk to find out more.”
