What happened at the Klöckner Pentaplast Open House Event in St Helen’s

Klöckner Pentaplast (‘kp’), a global leader in flexible packaging solutions, celebrated its St. Helens site’s full transition to the production of Expanded Polypropylene (EPP)-based kp Infinity® this week, with an exciting open house event.

Industry partners, customers and the local media were invited to the event on 21 September, to learn more about the facility’s new capabilities and the kp Infinity® packaging line, designed for the foodservice industry.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Adam Barnett, President and Sally Molyneux, Sales Director. They shared fascinating insights into their sites journey of transitioning to kp Infinity®. Their speeches shed light on the significance of this eco-friendly alternative to polystyrene, the challenges they faced in its production and the positive impact it is poised to have on the entire industry

After this, the attendees were treated to an exclusive site tour, providing an up-close look at the changes implemented at the St Helen’s facility. This practical experience allowed guests to witness first-hand the strides being made at the site in adopting sustainable practices. From an outside perspective, it was fascinating to see all the different processes and technology being utilised to produce this new, environmentally friendly packaging solution.

After this, lunch was served by Spudman – a media personality who was there, spreading the word to consumers about the event via TikTok livestream. This was of course served in sustainable kp Infinity® packaging, showcasing the functionality of the product in practice. I found that the packaging was unnoticeably different to the polystyrene equivalent, demonstrating that sustainable alternatives are readily available and can be seamlessly integrated into the takeaway industry.

As a whole, the event was a testament to the commitment of Klöckner Pentaplast towards a sustainable future and ensuring that businesses have sustainable alternatives following the single-use packaging ban on October 1st. The company aims to continue its progress, paving the way for a greener and more eco-conscious industry.

As the day came to a close, attendees left with a clearer understanding of the strides being made within the packaging industry in response to the ban, as well as the pivotal role that kp Infinity® will play in ensuring that businesses adapt smoothly.
