Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo 2025
July 29, 2025
“Two hospitality venues closing every day is not just a statistic; it represents the hollowing out of our high streets and communities… This cannot continue.”
August 6, 2025On Monday the chancellor of the exchequer Rachel Reeves paid a visit to NFFF Member Peter Fraser at Harbour Lights in Falmouth.
The NFFF had been contacted by Peter over the weekend as he wanted to maximise this opportunity to benefit the industry.

Peter commented “We Felt very honoured to have the Chancellor of the Exchequer visit Harbour Lights. Rachel enjoyed tucking into some MSC Cornish Hake & chips and seemed to really enjoy it. What made the visit though was an opportunity for some one to one time with her talking through the immense financial pressures being experienced by us all. I acknowledged that she had inherited a very broken economy, but tried to make a special case for our beloved industry. Followed it up sending her a one page of bullet points on why a VAT rate drop was crucial for our survival. She definitely listened, guess we will have to wait until her Autumn budget to see if her fish supper worked its magic”
The NFFF then collaborated with Peter to follow up with the Chancellor afterwards. We are stepping up our activity ahead of the budget on behalf of our members so that government have a complete picture of the current trading environment.
