York Chippy “Batters” Opposition In York Press Business Awards

Article Date: 2017-12-06

A North Yorkshire chippie has "taken out”’ their competitors at this year’s York Press Business Awards.

Scotts Fish and Chips - which has outlets in Helmsley and Bilbrough, on the outskirts of York - was named Retail, Tourism & Leisure Business of the Year, ahead of Continuum Attractions and The Principal York.

This award comes hot on the heels of both venues being enrolled into an international tourism review website’s "Hall of Fame”.

Thanks to rave testimonials from customers, both have been awarded the TripAdvisor International Excellency Award for the fifth year running.

Scotts Managing Director Tony Webster said: "When we saw whom we had been shortlisted against, we didn’t think we stood a chance of winning this award.

"Being shortlisted in this category was an accolade in itself – but to pip both Continuum Attractions and The Principal York to the post was simply unbelievable.

"It was a fantastic evening and winning was the icing on the cake. We were on cloud none for the rest of the night and are only just coming down.

"Winning this award has topped off a wonderful 18 months for Scotts. This time last year we achieved GF (gluten-free) accreditation from Coeliac UK, the national charity for people with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpitiformus.

"We also retained the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Quality Award scheme, which means Scotts is ranked as one of the top chippies in the country.

"We would have none of these awards if it wasn’t for the superb teams at Helmsley and Bilbrough, and this is again a tribute to their hard work and dedication.”

Mr Webster added: "We have customers that travel from all parts of the region to enjoy not just our fish and chips, but our wide range of homemade dishes and gluten free foods, which are incredibly popular with those who have wheat allergies.

"We will not be resting on our laurels, but will be working incredibly hard to ensure we live up to this latest honour.”
