Article Date: 2013-12-02

QUALITY AWARD FINALISTS ANNOUNCED - WHO WILL BE THE ‘CHAMPION’?

Finalists for the NFFF Fish & Chip Quality Award ‘Champion’ Award category have been announced ahead of the National Fish & Chip Awards 2014, organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood.

Now in its second year, the Quality Award ‘Champion’ Award was created as part of the NFFF Fish & Chip Quality Award scheme – a rigorous industry benchmark that was launched in January 2011 by the National Federation of Fish Friers.

The awards scheme is designed to acknowledge those who continue to raise the standards of the nation’s fish and chip shops, rewarding the shops that achieve the perfect balance between good quality products, clean hygienic premises, outstanding shop appearance, and highly trained and competent managers and staff.

The three finalists in the new category are:

Chamberlains Quality Fish & Chips in Oldbury. French’s Fish & Chip Shop in Norfolk. Kingfisher Fish & Chips in Plymouth.

Taylors in Stockport has also been highly commended.

The finalists have been shortlisted for the Quality Award ‘Champion’ Award from all those who take part in the NFFF programme.

Delighted by the response to the award, Mark Drummond, NFFF Vice President  commented, “The Quality Award Champion accolade is awarded to the shop that has done most to promote the NFFF Fish & Chip Quality Award to both consumers and fellow fish friers.

“The winner becomes an ambassador for the Quality Award for the coming year. The standard of entries was excellent – there is real enthusiasm for the Quality Award among the shops who hold it."

“The standard of entries was so high, that in addition to our three finalists we are also awarding Taylor’s of Stockport with a Highly Commended Award for the work they have done.”

Paul Williams, CEO of Seafish said, “Standards  across the fish and chip shop industry in the UK are exceptionally high, so it is encouraging to see that so many businesses still go that extra mile through a number of different initiatives to ensure that the quality of our national dish, fish and chips, will be maintained and enjoyed for generations to come.”

“This year’s award will be closely contested, with each finalist really proving themselves to be purveyors of excellence in every sense!”

The three finalists will now attend the awards ceremony for the National Fish & Chip Awards to be held in London on  22 January 2014, at the prestigious Lancaster London hotel, at which the overall national winner will be announced.
