Aspiring football stars have been given a huge boost in their training and development, thanks to The Wetherby Whaler in York.

Paul Hancock, who is a Senior Fryer at the York restaurant and takeaway and has worked at The Wetherby Whaler for 17 years, has a son who plays for the team and thought it would be extremely beneficial for the children to receive support from the well-known local business.

The Wetherby Whaler is a leading player in the popular fish and chip restaurant and take-away market in Yorkshire. In addition to York, it has restaurants and takeaways in Wakefield, Pudsey, Wetherby and Guiseley.

Janine Murphy, Co-owner of The Wetherby Whaler, said: "At The Wetherby Whaler, we believe that it is very important for us to support local clubs and initiatives and to put something back into the local area.
Sport brings people together and is a very important part of the community, so we were more than happy to help when Paul approached us with the idea of supporting Woodthorpe Wanderers.
We are delighted to be backing the players as it will help young people in the area develop their skills in a productive way and we’re looking forward to seeing them play in their new kits.”

Wayne Martin, who coaches the Woodthorpe Wanderers U10s, said: "Receiving the kits was a great boost to the team and we’d all like to say a big thank you to The Wetherby Whaler. We do some great work with young individuals in the area, which is made all the more possible with donations such as this, and the children are looking smart in their new kits and feeling incredibly proud to be wearing them.”
