The Wetherby Whaler restaurants and takeaways have again been given the stamp of approval by The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) after achieving its Quality Award.

Following an in-depth inspection, including a taste test, by assessors from the NFFF, the renowned Yorkshire fish and chip establishments in Wetherby, York, Pudsey, Wakefield and Guiseley regained the Oscar of the fish and chip world, putting The Wetherby Whaler in the top 2.5% of fish and chip shops in the country.
During the inspection, The Wetherby Whaler was assessed on:
• The layout, condition and cleanliness of its premises.
• The condition and cleanliness of its machinery, equipment and utensils.
• Hygiene standards.
• Working practices, including the preparation and handling of produce.
• Management controls.
• Cleaning schedules and staff training.
• Customer service.
• The quality and taste of its fish and chips.

The NFFF Fish & Chip Quality Award is a scheme aimed at improving standards and rewarding shops that provide top quality fish and chips in a clean, hygienic and safe environment.
Established in 1913, The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) works to protect and promote the interests of fish and chip businesses throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.
The Wetherby Whaler is a leading player in the popular fish and chip restaurant and take-away market in Yorkshire. It has restaurants and takeaways in Wetherby, York, Pudsey, Wakefield and Guiseley.
The assessor, Hugh Mantle, who is also a tutor at the NFFF Training School in Leeds, commented, "I was very impressed by the overall standards of cleanliness, attention to detail and the quality of food and service consistently offered throughout the shops I checked. Attaining the NFFF fish & Chip Quality Award is certainly an achievement for a group such as The Wetherby Whaler, and they should display this award with pride.”

Janine Murphy, Co-owner of The Wetherby Whaler, said, "We’re thrilled to have been awarded The NFFF’s Quality Award again.
"It was extremely important for us to re-gain this quality mark, as it means that members of the public can be assured that they’re eating the finest fish and chips from a top quality establishment.
"We won’t rest on our laurels, but will continue to serve proper Yorkshire fish and chips that meet the NFFF’s high-standards every day.”
