What is happening in the world of the seafood consumer? What is the current shape of the seafood market in the retail and foodservice sectors?
What activities are Seafish working on in relation to the consumer?

To find out more, you are invited to join Seafish at a free event in Birmingham on Tuesday, 9 October 2012 where we will be presenting on a number of consumer related topics, all focussed on keeping you up to date with the latest news, views and trends in the seafood industry.

This event will cover topics that relate to your customers, including market data, eating and consumer trends, sustainability, healthy eating and much, much more.
Agenda   10.30 am Registration and coffee 11 am Introduction An opportunity to hear what is happening in the seafood retail sector; an insight into trends and top performing species.

11.45 am Trends in foodservice – NPD Crest data
An opportunity to hear about the core trends within the foodservice sector and how consumer behavior has changed over recent times due to the economic climate. Focus will also be made on the performance of seafood in relation to other major proteins, as well as exploring the opportunities for seafood products to grow and develop in what is a tough and challenging marketplace. Also included will be an evaluation of the fish and chip channel in relation to other takeaway food channels. 12.30 pm Buffet lunch 1.10 pm The consumer and their understanding of fisheries science
Overview of a programme of qualitative research in the UK exploring the extent to which consumers believe science and scientists, and how such findings might assist the seafood industry better communicate future sustainability messages in a meaningful manner. 1.30 pm Taste – The Seafood Lexicon
How does the consumer perceive the taste and flavour ranges of seafood and how can such information be used to promote/market seafood. 1.50 pm Fish is the Dish consumer campaign
An overview of activities and messaging regarding the Fish is the Dish consumer campaign; promoting seafood to young mothers and families. 2.10 pm
