National charity, the Fishermen’s Mission, is sending on secondment to the Falkland Island their Superintendent for the Hull area, Tracey Stephens (47)

Tracey will be working with the fishing community in the Port of Stanley and surrounding area, pioneering the work on the Island and focusing on new ways of reaching out to the fishing community in this busy port. 

Having worked for the Mission for the past 2½ years Tracey^s role has been one of supporting and caring for the fishing community in Hull.  

During this time she has been influential in supporting fishermen, widows and relatives in many different ways. 

Tracey says ‘The work of the Fishermen’s Mission in Hull, and up the coast as far as Whitby, is to offer practical and welfare support to fishermen and their families. This included helping injured fishermen and being there during times of hardship and bereavement’.

David Dickens, Chief Executive of the Fishermen’s Mission adds ‘The Fishermen’s Mission has a long and successful relationship with our colleagues working at the Lighthouse Seamen’s Centre.  When they approached us for support we were delighted to be able to help.  Tracey will bring her many skills and expertise to this role and whilst we will miss her during this time the work in Hull will continue in her absence’.

Over a year ago Tracey was involved in an incident that happened in the Falklands when a fisherman became ill and suffered a stroke while on fishery protection duty. She was influential in acting on behalf of the family to fly the wife out to be by her husband^s side. 

With this connection she is going out to the place where this man worked for many years and hopes to bring back her own experience of the island to share with him and his family and to bring back something to him of the place he so dearly loves.

Tracey will leave the UK from RAF Brize Norton on 6th February for a month and is very much looking forward to serving and supporting the Lighthouse Seamen^s Centre in their work
