"Those pesky kids" to raise funds for two charities

Article Date: 2013-11-26

Scooby Doo and friends in Boxing Day fundraiser

The icy waters of Loch Tay in Perthshire won’t be an obstacle for The Real Food Café on Boxing Day as they get set to raise money for two charities.

Colin McGeoch and four other brave participants will be leaping into the Scottish lake as part of their “Boxing Day Dip” in a bid to raise funds for the Fishermen’s Mission and a local retirement home. That should banish the post-Christmas hangover!

Colin and his team, which comprises Elizabeth Watson, Brigitta Basjz, George Millar and Lester Hynes, are confronting the chilly challenge head-on when they dress up as Scooby Doo and his crime-solving gang. The fantastic five will don the cartoon costumes and plunge into the 14-mile-long lake – surely the first time the two charities will have benefitted from the Fred, Shaggy and the rest of those “pesky kids”.

The “Boxing Day Dip”, which will be held in the village of Killin, will generate funds for a much-needed new roof for the local retirement home. Colin, who recently visited Peterhead on the Young Fish Friers study trip with Seafood Scotland, realised the dangers of being a trawlerman and thought this would be a good opportunity to raise valuable funds. All the money raised will be split between both charities.

The JustGiving webpage, below, has been created for the event where people can donate money online: http://www.justgiving.com/killinboxingdaydip
