Skipton’s Best Loved Fish & Chip Restaurant Raises £278 for Macmillan

Skipton’s award winning Fish & Chip Restaurant,Bizzie Lizzie’s at Swadford Street, swapped frying for baking this week as it took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise over £275 for the cancer support charity Macmillan.

Each year Macmillan asks people throughout the UK to hold a coffee morning and raise money for people living with cancer. In 2013, around 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20 million. And it’s hoped that this year will see that total smashed once again.

Katie Davison from the family run business explained why Bizzie Lizzie’s chose to take part "Cancer is something that touches the lives of every family in the UK and ours is no exception. Macmillan have been and continue to be very supportive. Cancer affects not just your body but your life too and Macmillan can offer vital support whether it’s advice about work and money worries or just having someone to listen.”

Bizzie Lizzie’s already serves scrumptious afternoon teas at their High Street Car Park Restaurant, so they easily rose to the challenge of a coffee morning at their Swadford Street Restaurant. The splendid array of cakes and buns were much appreciated by the large number of visitors who attended the event.

"The staff have been wonderful, baking scones, cakes and biscuits and volunteering their time to make the event a success and I would also like to thank our suppliers Just Desserts, Total Foodservice, Hopwells and Kleantech who donated cakes, tea and coffee” said Katie.

"I am overwhelmed at the generosity of the Skipton people and visitors from far and wide who came to the coffee morning and would like to thank each and every one of them for helping us to raise over £275 for Macmillan and the cancer patients that they support.”
