Article Date: 2013-06-18

WHAT: Quayside, Whitby’s champion chippie, will be making a splash on Friday June 21, at a charity event that will see a local fisherman jump into the harbour at high tide, wearing one of the new compact ‘Mullion Personal Floatation Devices’ to raise awareness – and funds - for fisherman’s safety.  WHEN: Friday 21st June 2013 TIME: 10am WHERE: Whitby Fish Quay, (Opposite Quayside Restaurant), Pier Road, Whitby, Y021 3PU

The family-run fish and chip shop is taking the plunge with RNLI Lifeboat coxswain Mike Russell on Friday to raise money for The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen and Whitby Seaman’s Mission with a charity dip that will see a fisherman donning a specialised flotation device and jumping overboard at high tide.

Stuart Fusco, Quayside director and head chef explains that “Fishermen are 115 times more likely to suffer a fatal accident than the rest of the UK’s workforce and yet many of these deaths could be prevented with life jackets.”
