Fish Friers

Quayside searching for helpful mascot

Article Date: 2013-07-01

Finella the Fish needs a friend.

No, it^s not the opening line of a children^s book, but in fact a request by the Quayside^s mascot for schools to help draw her a new friend.

Champion chippie Quayside is challenging children to design a new fishy friend for its mascot Finella the Fish – and the winning entry could net a trip to the seaside for their whole class next term.

Yorkshire’s only MSC accredited family-run fish and chip shop is launching the Fishy Friends Competition as part of its Fusco Foundation schools initiative, and is asking local primary school pupils to create a buddy for its kids’ mascot, whose job is to spread the word about sustainable fishing.

Perhaps Finella needs a helpful haddock, a co-operative cod or supportive scampi? Whatever you decide, get creative and get it down on paper and your class could win a fun presentation at Quayside, an activity pack and a champion fish and chip lunch.

Stuart Fusco, Quayside director and head chef, said: “Finella is a very busy gill! We need your help to find a friend to make her job easier and, at the same time, learn more about fish and where it comes from.

“We’re passionate about fish and chips as a great national dish and we want kids to feel the same pride. We also want them to learn more about the journey of their fish from sea to plate, how to keep fish sustainable and how to help preserve the health of our oceans and seas, which is vital to Whitby and our planet.”

The closing date for the Fishy Friends Competition is July 23, 2013. To request entry forms (with full terms and conditions) please email: info@whitbyfishandchips.com
