Pukka Pies celebrate 50th anniversary in style

Article Date: 2013-06-21

Pukka Pies have celebrated their 50th anniversary in style this week with a celebratory get together with longstanding customers, employees and ex-employees at their Syston headquarters in Leicestershire.

As part of the celebrations, Pukka Pies launched a new ‘50 years of Pukka Pies’ liveried van that will deliver Britain’s favourite branded pies up and down the UK.

Co-Managing Directors, Tim and Andrew Storer, also announced that as part of the celebrations in 2013 they will be granting their employees an extra days holiday to their holiday entitlement in 2013 to thank them for all their on-going support and hard work.

Founders, VIP guests, current and former employees enjoyed an afternoon reminiscing about a highly successful 50 years that has seen the company grow from producing pies in the Storer family kitchen to an operation that now produces over 60 million pies a year.

Tim Storer said; “Pukka Pies continues to go from strength to strength and we are delighted to be celebrating our 50th year of business in 2013. Quality has been the Pukka Pies mantra from day one and that continues to be our focus 50 years on. It is vital that in the changing economic and social climate we continue to innovate and provide our consumers and customers with the superior products that Pukka Pies are renowned for whilst continuing to keep apace within the changing marketplace. Today is a celebration of the past 50 years of Pukka Pies and we look forward to being a part of peoples’ daily lives for many more years to come.”

Current Chairman, Trevor Storer, founded Pukka Pies in 1963 with an investment of £200 and the sale of his car that in turn purchased the first company mini-van.

Mr Storer’s first creation was the Steak and Kidney Pie and it was his wife Valerie who produced the recipe for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie which, like all the pies, remains the same recipe today.

The family traditions still exist 50 years on with the co-Managing Directors Andrew and Tim Storer, Trevor’s sons, who uphold the family values in everything that takes place at Pukka Pies in Syston.

Pukka Pies serve the UK, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Malta, Gibraltar and France with a network of National and European distributors along with their own multi-drop delivery vehicles in the Midlands.

Pukka Pies supply a range of pies and pasties – including Steak and Kidney, Chicken and Mushroom and Steak and Ale varieties – to hundreds of fish and chip shops, football stadiums and supermarkets across the country.
