NFFF Statement: UK and Norway fail to reach fishing deal

Article Date: 2021-04-30

“We fully support the British fishing industry and the failure to reach a fishing deal between the UK and Norway is devastating news for all.
Whilst the vast majority of our fish comes from Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroese, and Russian boats we still do use a lot of British caught fish. This will severely damage British fishermen and their communities.
We rely on having some domestic catch to keep the market stable and any lack of competition is going to have an impact on prices. We are already seeing large increases on almost all of our supplies and we fear this will continue.
There are too many factors changing at the same time and we are asking the government to engage with our sector as we are rapidly heading towards increases on VAT which will put many jobs at risk when we are facing so many hurdles.”
