Miller’s Fish and Chips shortlisted in top tourism awards

Article Date: 2017-08-08

Miller’s Fish and Chips, top three finalist in the 2017 National Fish and Chip Awards and regional champion of the North East, is delighted to announce they’ve been shortlisted as a finalist in the White Rose Awards.

The awards are the biggest celebration of tourism in the UK and recognise the very best businesses in Yorkshire. The 17 categories cover everything from hotels to holiday parks, pubs to producers and arts to attractions.

More than a thousand people will attend the ceremony which will be held at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Monday 30 October.

Miller’s is the only fish and chip shop to be shortlisted and will be competing against five other finalists in the Taste of Yorkshire category.

The category celebrates independent businesses within the tourism industry with a focus on serving food and drink, with the judging criteria focusing on the use of local produce, creative marketing, and consistent quality in the delivery and presentation of food.

Nick Miller, who co-owns Miller’s Fish and Chips in Haxby with his father David, said:

"As the only fish and chip shop shortlisted as a finalist in the awards, we’re proud to be flying the flag for fish and chips. To be shortlisted in the Taste of Yorkshire category alongside some of the finest independent food retailers in the region really means a lot to us.

"We’re delighted to have made it this far in the awards and look forward to spreading the word about our fantastic industry on the night of the awards!”

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:

"The quality of this year’s entries has been exceptional and makes me feel hugely proud of all the brilliant work going on in tourism in the county. It’s an honour to be part of these awards that recognise the many businesses and organisations that make Yorkshire such an amazing destination.

I extend my thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and huge congratulations to those who have made the shortlist.”

This year’s White Rose Awards will have even more surprises as organisers plan to make it the biggest and best one yet, with exciting guest stars and entertainment to be revealed in the coming months.

Miller^s Fish and Chips celebrated the announcement on Yorkshire Day at the beginning of the August with their staff members.

The family shop in Haxby has also announced that Nick will be a guest frier on the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) three-day Training Course in September: The NFFF Complete Guide to Fish and Chip Shop Management.
