Miller’s Fish and Chips is celebrating after being ‘Highly Commended’ in the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards, the UK’s largest celebration of tourism excellence.

The awards recognise and reward the very best of the industry throughout Yorkshire. This year’s White Rose Awards took place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds and were attended by over 1000 people.

The Haxby-based fish and chip shop was shortlisted in the Taste of Yorkshire Award following a rigorous judging process and 6 weeks of mystery shopping. Shortlisted entrants had to demonstrate creativity in their use of local produce, consistent quality in the delivery and presentation of food and creative marketing.

Miller’s was representing the industry as the only fish and chip shop shortlisted out of the 17 different categories. The judges wanted Miller’s to be recognised for their excellence, who awarded them ‘Highly Commended’ as a result.

White Rose Award judges said: "It’s not often that a business such as this will be found at a tourism award ceremony, but the judges thought that Miller’s was a worthy exception.

"Always serving an excellent variety of quality seafood, Miller’s is a popular restaurant which the judges felt should be recognised for its eco-friendliness and national reputation. It’s hardly surprising that it attracts regulars from right across the county.”

David Miller, who co-owns Miller’s Fish and Chips with his son Nick, said: "As the only fish and chip shop to be shortlisted in the awards, it was amazing to hear the feedback from the judges in front of so many people. It’s great that our team has been recognised for their hard work and we’re really proud that we’ve been able to fly the flag for fish and chips at such a prestigious awards ceremony and be a part of such an incredible night.”

Miller’s was recently announced as regional champions of the North East in the National Fish and Chip Awards, the industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony. Alongside nine other regional finalists, Miller’s will find out if they’ve been named the best fish and chip shop in the UK at the official ceremony later in January.
