Fish Friers

“If they hadn^t won, we wouldn^t have splashed out on the fish!!”

Chester heroes rewarded with seaside fish and chips

Chester manager Steve Burr rewarded his side with a seaside treat after they upset the odds to beat Southend in The FA Cup First Round Proper.

A culinary staple on the coastal towns of the UK, Burr rewarded his triumphant underdogs with fish and chips on the journey home after they ran out 2-1 victors at Roots Hall. You would forgive the Conference club^s players for being stiff after the long journey, but Ben Heneghan put the Conference Premier side into an odds-defying fifth minute lead.

Although the experienced Barry Corr drew Phil Brown^s men level, Burr^s side emerged triumphant thanks to a strike from Craig Mahon, whose wife had given birth to twins the day before.
Burr said: "We^ve given the lads fish and chips for the journey home. If they hadn^t won, we wouldn^t have splashed out on the fish. "It was a great day for all of us, but particularly Craig, who had twins yesterday. They say good news come in threes, and it certainly has for Craig now."
