Local fish and chip shop, George and Helen^s, has been awarded the inaugural Pukka Pies Fish and Chip Shop of the Month Award.

The Harbourne based chippy beat off a number of contenders for the prestigious monthly award that has been founded to reward the nation’s finest Fish and Chip shops.

Founded in 1967 the family run business has been a part of the fabric of Harbourne for 45 years.  Customers at the shop have even included pop band Westlife, who one employee mistakenly took for a tribute act.

Kostas Georgiou, third generation owner of the business, said; "We are delighted to have won the first ever Pukka Pies Fish and Chip Shop of the month award.

Since introducing Pukka Pies 5 years ago we have seen a huge increase in sales across the pie range and it continues to go from strength to strength."

Despite the difficult economic times they have been able to grow and have been a part of local life in Harbourne, Birmingham, for a considerable time."

Family owned business Pukka Pies are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2013 and currently serve the UK, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Malta, Gibraltar and France with a network of National and European distributors along with their own multi-drop delivery vehicles in the Midlands.

Pukka Pies supply a range of pies and pasties – including Steak and Kidney, Chicken and Mushroom and Steak and Ale varieties – to thousands of fish and chip shops across the country.
