Fish Friers

Fry Magazine Awards results in!

Article Date: 2019-03-11

After months of searching for the UK’s best fish and chip takeaways, restaurants and mobile units, Fry Magazine can finally reveal the shops that successfully made the grade

Over 400 outlets entered this year’s awards, which include a brand new category dedicated to mobile fish and chip operators.
The competition centres around a mystery visit in which every outlet is judged on key aspects that make fish and chips great - such as quality of food, atmosphere and customer service.

The results make for interesting reading, containing a mix of big name shops and smaller, lesser-known businesses as well as first time entrants to regular winners. What’s more, the successful operators are spread across the UK with shops from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales all represented.

This year the pass mark for the takeaway category was the highest it’s been in the competition’s seven year history with the cut-off point being 97%, leaving little room for error.

Reece Head, competition organiser, comments: “This year’s results were the tightest they’ve ever been showing that standards in the fish and chip industry are increasing all the time. These operators have proved that they are at the top of their game, subjecting their premises, staff and food to a thorough inspection and coming out with near-on perfect results. We would like to congratulate each and everyone and wish them a successful year as they enjoy their status as one of the best fish and chip operators in the UK.”

Every outlet that enters, regardless of whether they make the list, receives a copy of their mystery dining scorecard, providing a valuable tool to move forward and make improvements in their business. The winning businesses also receive a competition plaque to display in their restaurant, takeaway or van.
