Frankie^s 2nd Charity Cycle Sportive in aid of The Fishermen^s Mission

Article Date: 2012-10-16

NFFF members Frankie^s of Bray, Shetland Islands recently held a cycling sportive in September to raise money for the RNMDSF.   The total amount raised from the charity cycle sportive event was £4350.00 and a cheque was presented to Aubrey Jamieson, Superintendent of the RNMDSF in Shetland (pictured above)

Despite challenging conditions, more than 30 cyclists of all ages and abilities took part in the 10, 20 and 40 mile cycle routes.

We also had a participant from as far away as Aberdeen, our potato supplier, Jonathan Halliwell from William Fraser Potato Merchants, Aberdeenshire was visiting us that weekend and he also took up the challenge.

After the tough course all cycle participants and helpers enjoyed complimentary haddock and chips, local mussels and refreshments, generously donated by our suppliers.

Funds for the RNMDSF were raised through sponsors, donations from suppliers and raffle sales. The Mission also receives on-going, all-year-round support from Frankie^s customers who place donations into the Mission envelopes, the coin spinner and the Albert collection box, all of which are accessible to customers in the shop. At Frankie^s we also support Fish Friday every June in aid of Mission funds.

Owner Valerie Johnson commented, "It was a brilliant event and Frankie^s management and staff are delighted with the support we received from the local community. This has enabled us to donate to the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, which provides continuous support to the people who risk their lives every day in order for us to have delicious local fresh seafood on our menus".

Watch this space for next year^s event!
