Fish and chip lovers queue in rain for traditional Good Friday meal

The almost legendary Colmans Fish and Chips of South Shields was among the takeaway restaurants that saw lines forming outside
Scores of people braved the wet weather and queued outside chip shops in the North East to grab a traditional Good Friday lunch.
Among the venues that saw a surge in customers was Colmans, on Ocean Road, in South Shields.
The family-run restaurant and takeaway has won several awards over the years.
The honours have included Best UK Takeaway in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards, UKTV Gary Rhodes Local Food Heroes National Winner and the National Fish and Chip Awards Good Catch Award for sustainability.
It was rated best in the UK at The National Fish & Chip Awards in 2011 and was the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Winner in 2013.
The eaterie has also been given the thumbs-up by a string of celebrities who have dropped in for a bite including Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Hollywood star Patrick Stewart, Loose Women host Denise Welch, Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, former Olympic medallist and founder of the Great North Run Brendan Foster, and Coronation Street’s Liz Dawn.
