FISH AND CHIP BUSINESSES ‘FRYING’ SUCCESS FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Article Date: 2014-10-02

The UK’s most charitable and community-minded fish and chip businesses have been announced as finalists in the Community Contribution Award as part of the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.

The three finalists now ‘frying’ it out to be the ultimate winner are RockFish in Dartmouth, Devon; Alf’s Fish and Chips in Weymouth, Dorset and Chesters in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The Community Contribution Award recognises fish and chip related businesses for their excellent efforts in putting something back into their respective local communities. The three businesses were examined across a range of criteria including fundraising initiatives, sponsorship support and the impact this has had within their local areas.

Along with the charitable support that the staff and owners positively contribute, the fish frying enthusiasts must also focus on providing customers with high quality produce to recognise the importance of responsible sourcing and exceptional customer service.

Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish, said: "This category aims to acknowledge and encourage staff within the industry to take pride and get involved with their local community. Building and maintaining good relationships with customers and wider society should be at the heart of any business.

"Our judging panel of industry representatives had a challenging time determining the final shortlist – the calibre of entries was exceptionally high. The efforts that the three finalists have gone to are tremendous. Not only have they have had a positive impact on their communities but they are encouraging more fish and chip businesses follow their leads.”

The three finalists will now be invited to the prestigious awards ceremony which will be held in London on 20 January at The Lancaster London Hotel where the overall winner for this award category will be announced.

The National Fish & Chip Awards recognise the quality, value and choice offered by fish and chip businesses across the UK.
