WHITBY CHIP SHOP CELEBRATES 60 YEARS WITH NATIONAL FISH AND CHIP DAY DISCOUNT

Multi-award winning Quayside takeaway and restaurant is marking 60 years in the business this National Fish and Chip Day (June 5) with a special Yorkshire meal deal.

Already flying the flag for British fish and chips, the family-run chip shop will be putting out the bunting for National Fish and Chip Day on Friday with a specially priced portion to celebrate six decades in the fish and chip trade.

It was back in 1955 when the Fusco family – who now run Quayside, in Pier Road, Royal Fisheries in Baxtergate, and the Fish Box, in Langbourne Road – joined the industry, and since then three-generations have served up perfect portions of fish in own-recipe batter, homemade tartare sauce, cod fishcakes and beef dripping chips.

"We’re proud of our long family history in the fish and chip trade and our commitment to quality – and what better day to be celebrating it!” says Carol Fusco from Quayside, voted Independent Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop of the Year 2014. "We’ve watched many fads and fashions come and go, but fish and chips will always be central to British food culture, particularly by the seaside, and we’ve dedicated our lives to making sure it’s a dish done well.”

The UK’s first ever National Fish and Chip Day, which aims to help secure fish and chips as the UK’s number one takeaway, runs from 10am-4.30pm at shops and restaurants across the UK on June 5. Find out more at nationalfishandchipday.org.uk
