Countdown on to fourth Frankie’s Charity Cycle Sportive

Article Date: 2014-08-11

The countdown is on to the fourth annual Frankie’s Charity Cycle Sportive in aid of Fishermen’s Mission Funds.

Staff at the award-winning chippie are urging participants to sign up for the 10, 20 or 40 mile routes on the big day – Sunday 31st August.

They say age and cycling ability are no barrier to taking part – the event is all about having fun.

Forms are available at the shop in Brae or you can phone 01806 522700 for more information.

A raffle will also be held with all proceeds also going to the Fishermen’s Mission.

Thanks to generous contributions from a whole range of sponsors, there are some great prizes for both the event itself and the raffle.

George Robertson Ltd has kindly donated three different sets of Monster headphones for the first cyclist over the line in the 10, 20 and 40 mile routes.

And the raffle prizes will include a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, an iPad mini, £150 in cash, £100 in cash, a food hamper and a 10ft Whirlwind children’s trampoline.

Since it began in 2011, the Charity Cycle Sportive has raised more than £10,000 for the Fishermen’s Mission.

The routes for the sponsored cycle are 40 miles (two times around a loop from Brae to Voe to Mossbank), 20 miles (once around the same loop) and 10 miles (Brae to Voe and back).

Frankie’s manager John Gold urged people to join in and support a very worthwhile cause.

"This is a fun event and enjoyment doesn’t depend on cycling ability – it really is open to everyone,” he said.

"The money raised all goes to support the good work the Fishermen’s Mission does for folk in our fishing community.”

Sponsors so far include Bon Accord Accountancy, BP, Scoop Wholefoods, Bristow Helicopters, Blueshell Mussels, Blydoit Fish, Morrison Construction, Aker Solutions, Blakeman’s, Petrofac, NB Communications, Platform Shetland, The Camera Centre, Brae Building Centre, Hughson Bros, Brae Garage, Johnson Transport, Shetland Janitorials, J W Gray & Co, Caber Coffee, Wm Fraser Potato Merchant, J A Cromarty, Shetland Farm Dairies, Russums and The Batter Company.
