The Daily Mirror have surveyed the names of 400 chip shops across the UK.

Is your local chip shop called Mr Chips? Mr Chips is the most common chip shop name in the UK, according to DATA.

The Mirror analysed 100,000 takeaways and restaurants in Britain and found that chip shops are most likely to have bad puns as names and that Mr Chips was the most common name for a chippie. What happened to Ms Chips? We don^t know.

The Daily Mirror separately ranked some common fish and chip shop names in order of terribleness. Is there a particularly stupidly named chip shop near you- or one with a ridiculous pun?

1. Frydays

Do you only want people to come here one day a week? Dopeople still observe the Catholic tradition of eating fish on Friday? We find this pun illogical.

2. Codfather

Just because you can fit the word ‘Cod’ in it does not a good pun make.

3. Oh My Cod

Not as heinous as ‘Codfather’, but pretty close. There is nothing ‘OMG’ about fish and chips

4. Tasty Plaice

At least this one makes some semblance of sense. However, it is still cringe. Is it possible to have a good fish-related pun?

5. Golden Plaice

We hope this isn’t going to be a trend. Unless your fish and chip shop is actually golden, do not use this name. There is no plaice for that kind of ridiculous pun.

6. Perfect Plaice

Nope, the trend is continuing. FISHMONGERS: Please stop!

7. Fish Plaice

This one didn’t even try to be original.

8. Tasty Plaice

10. Friar Tuck’s

Unless there is an interesting back story for all 11 chip shops in the UK called ‘Friar Tuck’s’, we are judging you for having such an odd name. Is it frequented by priests?

1. Frying squad

Because it made us think of superheroes frying fish!

2. Giggling squid

This one is just cute. SQUIDS ARE SO CUTE.

3. Oh My Cod

Yeah, we slated it earlier, but we do sometimes love a rubbish pun.

4. Trawler’s Catch

Because it makes us feel like we are getting something fresh from the sea!

5. Battered Cod

Does what it says on the tin.
