CHIP SHOPS: REGISTER NOW FOR CHIP WEEK 2014!

As the countdown to Chip Week 2014 gets underway, chip shops are being urged to register for the popular annual event and join in the celebrations. As the platform to promote the sector amongst increasing competition from other takeaways, Chip Week provides a real boost to businesses as it encourages consumers to champion the mighty chip.

Organised by Potato Council, Chip Week will run from 17-23 February 2014. Through an extensive range of promotional activity, it aims to highlight the freshness, good value and great tradition of Britain’s high street chippies – and inspire the nation to tuck into a tasty portion!

Stu Baker, Chip Week campaign manager for Potato Council, said: “Chip Week is a national institution; in fact 2014 sees it return for the 23rd consecutive year. So for chip shops looking to increase sales and service, it makes sense to get on board. It’s free and easy to sign up – simply register via chipweek@potato.ahdb.org.uk and you’ll get a range of supporting promotional material featuring tips and advice.”

The Week in 2013 was a great success, securing £3million worth of positive media coverage and more shops than ever before reporting improved returns. 2014 promises to be another high profile event, with the return of the prestigious Choice Chip Awards. These recognise and reward the best chips served across the country – as voted for by their customers – giving shops the perfect opportunity to build positive recognition and local PR.

For 2013 Champions, Burton Road Chippy, the impact was phenomenal. Lesley Graves said: “It far exceeded anything we could have hoped for. We had some amazing coverage on TV, the radio and in the local newspapers as new of our award spread while the whole team had tremendous fun undertaking charity events to celebrate Chip Week that also brought the community together.

“We raised money for a great cause and drew customers in from far and wide – we even had a banner made to publicise and benefit from our success throughout the year. We’ll certainly be taking part in Chip Week 2014.”

As well as activity focused on drawing attention to Chip Week, Potato Council is reviving its ‘Love Chips’ message, based on feedback from the sector. This will ensure that we are in a stronger position to promote the nation’s great takeaway all year round. Marketing material to support businesses throughout the year will be sent to shops as part of the Chip Week kits – so don’t miss out, make sure you sign up today.
