Cheers! UK’s Best Fish and Chip Shop Uses Fine Wine To Raise Money For The Fishermen’s Mission

Article Date: 2014-12-02

Quayside of Whitby has found the perfect accompaniment to a plate of their award-winning fish and chips, and has raised £360 for the Fishermen’s Mission in doing so.

Bordeaux Blanc has been named the perfect tipple to complement a fish and chip supper, and Quayside, the UK’s best fish and chip shop, has raised money for a national charity to celebrate.

For every glass of Bordeaux Blanc sold at Quayside, £2.50 has been donated to The Fishermen’s Mission, a charity which provides support to fishermen and their families.

The Fisherman’s Mission will use the money to buy three new life jackets for the pupils at the Whitby Fishing School.

"We’re thrilled that Quayside thought of us when organising this promotion,” said Mike Russell, of the Fishermen’s Mission. "We provide 24 hour emergency care to active and retired fishermen, so any donations are vital to us. It’s brilliant to be able to use the money raised in the local area, and to promote safe fishing practice amongst the young fishermen.”

Stuart, head frier and manager at Quayside said "we’re delighted at the amount we’ve raised. It’s a fantastic cause. Working at sea is often considered one of the toughest occupations for both men and women, so it’s meant a lot to us to raise this money and support the charity. We are delighted the money is going back into the local fishing community.”
