Mussel Inn pair relishing prospect of return trip to Shetland

The owners of the award-winning Mussel Inn restaurants in Edinburgh and Glasgow are looking forward to returning to Shetland early next month to cook at a special Charity Seafood Weekend.

Father and son Janne and Kristian Johansson will be hosted once again by Frankie’s Fish & Chips, supported by Blueshell Mussels, at the event to raise funds for the Fishermen’s Mission on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June.

The pair came to the isles in May last year to show off their skills at the Charity Mussel Weekend held by Frankie’s and Blueshell to promote MSC-certified local mussels and scallops.

"We’re really looking forward to coming back to Shetland – we loved our trip last year,” said Janne.

"Around 90 per cent of the mussels we serve in the restaurant come from Shetland. They are the best – they have the best flavour and are so clean from all that beautiful clear water you have.”

Janne and Frankie’s manager John Gold have compiled a mouth-watering menu which will include mussels with Shetland smoked cheese, chillies and cream; mussels with roasted red pepper sauce and basil pesto; and mussels, scallops and langoustines with fettucine in a shellfish bisque.

Mr Gold said: "We had a fantastic weekend when Janne and Kristian came up last year and are delighted that they are coming back.

"We’re going for a broader range of seafood this year, with langoustines and MSC crab appearing on the menu alongside MSC mussels and scallops.

"And of course it is all in a good cause – supporting the valuable work done by the Fishermen’s Mission for our fishermen.”

Michael Laurenson of Blueshell Mussels said the firm was delighted to be sponsoring Janne’s and Kristian’s trip to Shetland. Blueshell will also supply the mussels for free.

Profits from the sale of the dishes on the special menu over the weekend will go to the Fishermen’s Mission along with donations taken at Frankie’s tables and at the takeaway counter.
