^Any Fin^ is Possible in 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards

TOP THREE SEASONAL FISH AND CHIP BUSINESSES DEMONSTRATE ‘ANY FIN’ IS POSSIBLE IN 2015 NATIONAL FISH & CHIP AWARDS

The top three finalists have been shortlisted in the Best Seasonal Fish and Chip Operator Award as part of the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.

Dodson’s Fresh Catch in Stanley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire; StarChip Enterprise in Evesham, Warwickshire and The Jolly Fryer in Denmead, Hampshire have all ‘battered’ their way through the judging process to reach the final to be held in January 2015.

This relatively new award category rewards excellent fish and chip businesses that operate on a seasonal basis or who operate on a mobile basis. To get to this stage of the competition, the fish frying enthusiasts were judged across a variety of criteria including general business practices, customer service, marketing activities and most importantly their fish and chip offering.

Award sponsor Mick Bacon, Manager of the Responsible Fishing Scheme, said: "I am honoured to be supporting this category, now in its second year. There have been some excellent entries. Picking only three finalists has been a challenging task.

"As the Responsible Fishing Scheme aims to raise the standards of the fishing industry, it is encouraging to see that even the smallest of seasonal businesses are demonstrating their commitment towards the responsible sourcing of seafood. Sustainability is such a topical issue within our industry; the National Fish & Chip Awards do an excellent job of promoting the importance of fish provenance. We congratulate the three finalists and look forward to seeing who comes out on top.”

The three finalists now have to wait until the anticipated awards ceremony in London on 20 January 2015, held at The Lancaster London Hotel, to find out who will be ‘frying’ home as the winner.

Seafish Chief Executive Paul Williams commented: "The Best Seasonal Fish and Chip Operator Award acknowledge those businesses that excel throughout the tourist seasons or who operate on a mobile basis. With many travellers visiting holiday parks, caravan sites and leisure outlets across the UK, seasonal fish and chip operators have a very important task of promoting and selling our traditional dish to people who may have never tried it before.

"We would like to congratulate the three businesses in reaching the final of this award; their dedicated work ethic throughout the seasons has been exceptional.”

The National Fish & Chip Awards recognise the quality, value and choice offered by fish and chip businesses across the UK.
