13 awards for Chamberlains!

Article Date: 2014-06-24

A fish and chip restaurant on the Birmingham and Sandwell border has won another two prestigious awards.

Chamberlains opened in 2011 and in 3 years has scooped a total of 13 major awards including the NFFF Quality Award this week. The Quality Award recognises the fish & chip shops that have the 5 star certification from the NFFF - only about 250 (around 2% of the 10,500 UK Chippies).

Chamberlains staff were put through a vigorous 5-hour inspection which assesses the business on; product quality & taste, hygiene, food preparation practices and customer service.

Seafish and NFFF assessor Mike Pili of Sutton Coldfield has worked in the industry for more than 40 years and he carried out the inspection and was quick to give praise to Chamberlains management and staff for their commitment to the certification. Chamberlains surpassed every section of the NFFF Quality Award inspection and have retained their status as one of the industry^s finest fish & chip shops for a further 2 years.

During the same week Chamberlains also received a Certificate of Excellence for 2014 from review site Trip Advisor, adding to the ones achieved in 2012 and 2013, where satisfied diners rated Chamberlains between very good and excellent based on quality of food, service, atmosphere and value for money.

In addition they have won 3 awards in 3 years at the National Fish & Chip Awards (The industry^s "Oscars”) including "Best Newcomer” in 2012 and "Quality Award Champion” in 2014, demonstrating how Chamberlains are rated within this competitive industry.

Add to those awards "best Fish & Chips in Sandwell” to Regional wins as part of National Chip Week and 5 star Hygiene ratings since the restaurant was opened - making up the 13 awards.

So what is the key to the success? Simon Shaw co-owner said, "Firstly when we opened we set out to offer the best fish and chips experience in the Birmingham area; not the quickest, not the cheapest but the best, so we use the best possible sustainable produce and cook all fish and chips fresh to order. We offer 10 types of fish and seafood and cook in vegetable oil or traditional beef dripping, We can breadcrumb, grill or fry in our light and crispy batter for a taste of the seaside. Our trained staff are committed to providing the best possible welcome and service and we pride ourselves in having clean well managed premises and the highest standards of hygiene."

On Friday 20th June Chamberlains held a special Tapas day with 15 "small plates” of fish and seafood priced at just £4.75 to raise money for the Fishermens Mission. Over £300 was raised and following great feedback from customers Chamberlains now plan to showcase their Tapas Menu over the weekend of 25th-27th July, so if you fancy trying Moroccan Red Mullet,  bacon-wrapped cod cheeks or caramelised scallop risotto then why not reserve a table?

Chamberlains, situated next to what was Jonathan^s, is located on the junction of Hagley Road West and Wolverhampton Road and is open every day for lunch, tea and dinner from 12 noon to 9pm. There is a takeaway or a full dine-in 76 seated licensed restaurant serving a full range of starters, main courses and desserts.

The NFFF congratulates Chamberlains success and wishes the very best for the future.
